Is round somehow "better looking"? I've never thought so, but apparently it's the more popular choice. Round vs square - sorry, I don't get the "round, digital" watch concept. It's not every watch or every user experiencing them, but it's a significant enough number that anyone may run into them. The new OHR sensors have some glitches that have yet (2 years in) to be "corrected" by Polar. OHR, the m430 is likely more accurate than the new Polar watches. ANY new Polar will not be as accurate as often as the m430. There is no comparison, the M430 is the last of the "m" level watches (or ANY level of the new round watches) to hold a very accurate GPS track. GPS, hands-down M430 is far superior to any new-gen (Sony chipset) Polar. Never heard any complaints about the "old style" m430 tracking though, so it's just "new style versus old style" in that regard. (And doesn't have the random OHR spikes that the newer (all the round ones) seem to have, OHR isn't great, I'm not a fan myself but I do wear a 430 for daily wear, but the new round watches seem to have a significant percentage of users with "odd behaviors" that never seemed to happen in the pre-color gens.īoth (M430 and Ignite) have sleep tracking, they are different methods, it's not clear which one is better or worse, but of course Ignite is the "newer" version of Polar's methodologies. Just my opinions, but shared by MANY! If you just want a color screen and a round (I don't get that either) watch that looks nice daily wear, the Ignite is good, if you want a GREAT sports watch, the M430 is better. the M430 is just the pinnacle end-result of a decade or more of their "midline research and development" before they made a total overhaul to the new color, touchscreen versions which are almost a step-back in "sports watch" utility. Also the M430 is instant response, and visible under a wide range of conditions, compared to the newer color Polars which all have lagging responses to wrist flips, questionable sleep-mode responsiveness (turn on in the middle of the night while you are sleeping) etc. (For someone coming from a Fitbit or similar, that may not be noticeable, but it's very noticeable for those who are used to the advantages). Ignite would be a great daily watch, looks great, and certainly has enough "functionality" on paper, but the user-interface where it counts (running) simply isn't as good with a one-button and touchscreen combo. Some mention Vantage models also as their "newer" models, but those are NOT similar at all to Ignite, in that they have the multi-button (better for usage during running, etc) format. M430, the additional buttons make it much more functional and easier to use for actual "activity" usage compared to the single-button/touch screen interfaces.
